ALAC Online Breeder Directory |
||
| The
Online Breeder Directory is a service offered by the American Lhasa
Apso Club. Participation requires that the breeder be a member of ALAC
for at least one year. Futurity
Rules The ALAC Online Directory is organized geographically
by state and is designed to guide buyers to responsible breeders in
their area who are breeding both companion and show Lhasa Apsos. The ALAC Breeder Referral Committee strongly suggests to buyers that they screen the breeders to the best of their ability as inclusion in the ALAC Online Breeder Directory is not a guarantee of the breeder's reputation or the qualities of the dogs they produce. Keep in mind that a responsible breeder will screen you as closely (or more so!) than you will screen them. Also note that responsible breeders often have a waiting list for puppies and it is usually worth the wait. Although you may want a puppy "today," or have an "ideal" time in mind to bring your puppy home, keep in mind that finding a puppy from healthy parents that has been given a good start in life by a knowledgeable breeder is, over the lifetime of living with your dog, far more important. Responsible breeders should be able to discuss common health issues of the breed and describe any health testing that they do. They will limit the number of litters they produce each year and are conscientious about where their puppies are placed. (While it is not the intention of the Breeder Referral Committee to give an ideal upper or lower number of litters that a responsible breeder produces in a year, an average guide is from one to four.) Be wary of breeders producing too many litters because they are directly or indirectly contributing to the pet overpopulation problem. The AKC and the ALAC Code of Ethics requires that breeders place puppies and adult dogs with written contracts. However, ALAC is not responsible for any breeding or purchase contracts, guarantees, assurances, or promises made between the ALAC members on the Online Directory and the puppy purchaser. Once you make contact with the breeder(s), what transpires is beyond the control and responsibility of ALAC as these are contractual matters between the individual buyer and the individual seller of the puppy or dog. For more information on what to look for in a responsible breeder, please see Finding a Responsible Breeder. If you have any additional questions, please contact a member of the Breeder Referral Committee: Midwest - Leslie Baumann ltbaumann@comcast.net East Coast - Bev Drake bdrake216@comcast.net West Coast - Susan Vaughn slmvb@cox.net The American Lhasa Apso Club is opposed to cross-breeding of dogs and is particularly opposed to the deliberate crossing of Lhasa Apsos with any other breed. These crossbreeds are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public with the idea that there is an advantage to these designer dogs. Crossbred dogs are prone to all of the genetic diseases of both breeds and offer none of the advantages that owning a purebred dog has to offer. |
