The following list of ALAC approved breed mentors includes
both licensed breeder-judges and ALAC members who have met
AKC’s mentor criteria and have volunteered to serve as approved
breed mentors. If you are a Lhasa Apso judge or you
are applying for Lhasa Apsos, please feel free to contact
a mentor near you. To receive information on upcoming
parent club approved seminars, please contact one of the

interested in becoming a breed mentor, please contact one

Criteria for ALAC
approved mentors:
1. Must be a member in
good standing of ALAC at least 10 years.
2. Will sign a statement agreeing not to contradict
the AKC Lhasa Apso Standard by inserting personal opinion.
3. Must agree that ringside mentoring or kennel visits
should be positive, private and confidential; and discussion
should not be shared publicly after the mentoring session.
4. Is willing to travel at their own expense to specialty
shows, group, or all-breed shows that have entries large
enough to qualify for mentoring under AKC guidelines. .
5. All members who meet the American Kennel Club's
12-5-4 requirements may apply to mentor. 12 years owning
Lhasa’s plus 5 years breeding and
producing at least 4 champions.
6. All ALAC member who are AKC licensed breeder-judges
will be invited to be official mentors and are expected
to be familiar with all AKC's ringside observations/mentoring
guidelines and forms distributed by the Judging Operations
Dept which must be signed by the mentor..
7. Should be willing to participate in meetings, in
person or by teleconference, for the purpose of training
and familiarizing themselves with the Judges Educations
& mentoring program.
8. Agrees to have AKC and/or ALAC provide his/her
name and contact information to prospective judges.
Additional recommended
criteria:
A. Has attended one or
more ALAC national specialties within the past five years.
B. Has attended one or more ALAC judge’s education
program within the past five years.
C. Has presented one or more official JEC Lhasa Apso
breed seminar(s) using ALAC educational materials.
General guidelines for ringside mentors:
Each ALAC approved mentor must have a copy of the
Illustrated Guide to the Lhasa Apso and the program approved
by the Judges Education Committee. ALAC mentors will send
a report of each ringside mentoring experience or kennel
visit to the Judges Education Chairman who will forward
these to the AKC Judges Department upon request. |
